Three distinct styles for pulling a room together

What’s not to love about blinds? Their versatility makes them ideal for any room in the house, while you can enjoy light control and privacy simply by tilting the slats. Finding a blind aesthetic to complement your décor isn’t difficult. Today’s real wood, faux wood and aluminum blinds are available in a range of colors, textures and finishes, as well as with different slat sizes and enhancements, such as decorative tapes. Plus, if you opt for custom-made blinds, you’ll be able to have blinds constructed for specialty shaped windows, such as French doors, or with cut-outs to accommodate windows with handles or cranks.  Keep in mind, though, that quality is key—so look for well-crafted blinds that will last a long time.

Real Wood Blinds

Made from genuine hardwood, real wood blinds are a classic window treatment that add warmth to a room. With a variety of gorgeous stains and colors to choose from, you can pair the color of real wood blinds with your interior window casings and moldings, so they’ll feel like part of the room’s architecture. When shopping for real wood blinds, make sure to look for options that source wood from responsibly managed forests.

Faux Wood Blinds

While real wood blinds complement a range of design styles, they don’t play well with heat and humidity. So if you desire blinds for bathrooms or sunrooms, consider faux (alternative) wood blinds. Faux wood blinds look like the real thing, but can stand up to moisture and sun.  You’ll want to select a style that’s guaranteed to resist fading, yellowing, warping or bowing—for outstanding durability for the life of your blinds.

Aluminum Blinds

Sleek and streamlined, aluminum blinds are available in an array of colors and finishes, including mattes, metallics and soft, pearlescent hues. Not all aluminum blinds are created equal, so opt for styles that can take the wear and tear of busy households and high-traffic areas, such as kids’ rooms.

Control Options

When it comes to manually raising and lowering blinds, you’ll find cordless options—for example, on some styles, you simply push up and pull down on the bottom bar. When it comes to tilting the slats, you can choose from a wand, cord, or even motorization. Having motorized tilt gives you precise, convenient control. You can tilt slats with a remote, an app or even schedule them to tilt automatically exactly when you want them to.

Hassle-Free Care

No matter which blind style you choose—real wood, faux wood or aluminum— keeping blinds looking like new is easy. Simply dust the slats regularly with a feather duster or microfiber cloth. You can also lightly vacuum your blinds with the brush attachment on a hand-held vacuum. (Avoid using abrasive cleaners or chemical solvents, which may damage the blinds’ surface.)
